Megan Cunningham

Megan has been with CT Elite since the begining and serves as one of our Head Coaches, playing a key role in curriculum planning and implementation. She is also our Marketing & Social Media Director and Recruiting Specialist.

She is currently the Head Varsity Field Hockey Coach at New Canaan High School, where she has quickly established one of the premier programs in Connecticut.

Since taking over as Head Coach in 2022, Megan has led the Rams to four consecutive FCIAC and CIAC championship appearances, with two State Runner-Up finishes.

In recognition of her success, she was named both the 2025 FCIAC Coach of the Year and CIAC Class L Coach of the Year. She also holds a USA Field Hockey Level 1 Coaching Certification and has served as a USA Field Hockey Nexus Coach.

Prior to becoming Head Coach, Megan began coaching in the New Canaan Field Hockey program as the Varsity Assistant and JV Coach. She has also played an active role in the development of youth field hockey in New Canaan for more than eight years, helping to mentor and develop players at every level.

A native of Wilton, Connecticut, Megan enjoyed an outstanding playing career at Wilton High School, where she was a team captain and helped lead the Warriors to three consecutive CIAC State Championships.

She earned First Team All-State, First Team All-FCIAC, First Team All-Area, Max Field Hockey All-Northeast Region honors, and was named the 2014 Blue Streak–Ruden Fall Player of the Year.

Megan continued her career at Rutgers University, where she was a four-year letter winner for the Scarlet Knights. During her collegiate career, Rutgers advanced to three Big Ten Tournaments and made its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1986.

An Academic All-Big Ten selection, Megan appeared in 26 career games while contributing both offensively and defensively throughout her time in Piscataway.

After a career-ending injury during her senior season, she transitioned into a Student Coach, continuing to mentor and support her teammates from the sidelines.

Fittingly, Megan’s journey has come full circle. As a youth player, she competed for one of Fairfield County’s top club programs under the guidance of CT Elite Director Emily Townsend. Today, she is proud to help lead the next generation of CT Elite athletes both on and off the field through dedication to player development, enthusiasm for the game, and commitment to mentoring young athletes. This makes her an  invaluable member of the CT Elite coaching staff.
